CASE INFORMATION

Tara Louise Baker was a first-year law student attending the University of Georgia. Baker was last seen alive by her friend at the UGA Law School Library at around 7:30 PM on January 18. The same friend received a phone call from Baker at 9:46 PM who was still at the library. Baker wanted to make sure her friend made it home safely and told her that she would leave the library at around 10 PM.


Baker’s body was found by Athens-Clarke County firefighters responding to a fire at her apartment located at 160 Fawn Drive, Athens. Investigators determined that the fire was set intentionally and the manner of death was homicide. It was later discovered that Baker was beaten, stabbed, strangled and assaulted before the perpetrator set the apartment on fire to cover their tracks.
